Get acquainted with JOMO (the Joy Of Missing Out)

The antidote to FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), JOMO is the cure you might not have even known you needed.
Winter often means less time outdoors and more nights in. So we think it’s the best time to take stock and focus on your wellbeing. And you don’t need to check into an expensive retreat to do it! Here are our favourite ways to recharge at home in the winter months:
- Digital Detox
Set an amount of ‘unplugged’ time from your digital devices each day, and enjoy being present in real life. Start small (try an hour), then build and make it a habit.
Tip: The harder it is to make it a habit, the more you need it!
- Take up a hobby
What is it you really love to do? Turn it into a hobby, either for fun or see where it takes you. Why not start a blog, start brewing Kombucha, get stuck into fixing up cars or whatever else tickles your fancy.
- Dinner Party
Find recipes you’d love to cook (and eat) and throw a small dinner party for your friends or family. Enjoy the time preparing the food, with some music and your beverage of choice, and the great company of a night in.
- Learn more
Read a book, listen to a podcast or watch a documentary. These are all great ways to learn a little more about things you’re interested in. Of course, you can always do these things to just veg out too - learning optional.
- Have an ‘Anything on the couch night.’
Whatever you’re in to - eating a tub of peanut butter and reading for hours, watching cartoons with the kids, or playing the newest PlayStation Game, do it completely guilt free and forget whatever else you ‘should’ be doing.
- Love your own company
Relish the nights in where you only have to please yourself, they’re great opportunities to reflect on how you’re tracking with your goals. Try making a dream board with magazine cut outs, of your 1,2,5 (or however many) year plan or giving meditation or Pilates a go from home - there are lots of great beginner apps out there.
- Go for a stroll to nowhere in specific
Head out for a walk, pick flowers, listen to the birds and try and actively notice five things you would usually walk past. It’s great to keep active and healthy in the winter months, even a short walk a day can help clear the mind and move the body.
- Date night
Swap a night out for a night in and combine all the best bits of your favourite dates out, from the comfort of home! Have a picnic in front of the fire (or heater), brew homemade hot chocolate, play board games or give each other a massage!
