Lights, Camera, Action! MyState Student Film Festival 2019 Wrap Up
First published on December 10, 2019
That’s a wrap! The 2019 MyState Student Film Festival finished up this week & we were treated to another year of brilliant films from students across Australia!
Now in its 17th year, the MyState Student Film Festival encourages students to create short films either as a class, in groups, or as individuals, and receives entries from students ranging in age from Kindergarten to University. Over the past year, budding filmmakers across the country have been creatively planning & crafting their cinematic masterpieces to enter in the 2019 MyState Student Film Festival.
2019 was another huge year for the Film Festival, with a grand total of 291 films entered from 105 schools across Australia. Our judging panel were once again faced with the difficult task of shortlisting finalists and selecting the winning films for award categories such as Best Documentary, Best Screenplay, and Best Music Video.
An estimated 450 people flocked to Hobart’s Theatre Royal on Tuesday the 3rd of December to witness the presentation of 21 Award Categories and $18,000 in prizes to Tasmanian Student Filmmakers. Hosted by hit100.9 Hobart’s Jimmy and Nath, the Tasmanian Film Festival Awards Event was a popcorn-fueled, action-packed, fun-filled celebration of student filmmaking talent.
The Premier of Tasmania, Will Hodgman joined us to present the prestigious Premier’s Award (for “Most Inspiring and Thought Provoking Film”) to Table Cape Primary for their animated film, “I Will Be Me.” Hobart College student and previous MyState Student Film Festival Award winner, Amara Gantz, won both Best Film (Post Year-10 Category) and Best Animation for her animation “Feel the Music.” To see our full list of both Tasmanian and Regional Award Winners, check out our website or our YouTube channel.
A big thank you to our wonderful MyState Bank volunteers, who helped ensure the smooth running of events.
Stay tuned - the 2020 Feature Item will be announced soon!
